Rochester Rockets dominate Springfield Lutheran 6-0 to advance in Regionals

Coming off a tough season with a 5-12-3 record, the Rochester Rockets faced a major challenge in the first round of Regionals at Pleasant Plains, taking on Springfield Lutheran, who entered the matchup with an impressive 18-2-2 record.

On paper, the records told one story. On the field, Rochester had a different one to tell.

The Rockets came out firing early as Kaileb Batchelder muscled his way to a goal to give Rochester a 1-0 lead. The offense kept rolling when Hayden Heberling delivered a dime into the box, where Ahmad Hussein finished the play to double the lead.

Later in the first half, John Keller joined the scoring party. Racing at a defender, Keller forced a mistake, capitalized on the loose ball, and found the back of the net to make it 3-0.

Before the halftime whistle, Keller broke free down the right wing and delivered a ball to Hussein, who finished for his second goal of the night. Rochester headed into the break with a commanding 4-0 lead.

The Rockets showed no signs of slowing down in the second half. Evan Lemme found the back of the net to extend the advantage before Hussein completed his hat trick, putting the finishing touches on a dominant performance.

When the final whistle sounded, Rochester had delivered a statement victory, shutting out Springfield Lutheran 6-0 and punching its ticket to the next round.

From a 5-12-3 regular season to a six-goal regional performance against an 18-win team, the Rockets proved that records don’t always tell the whole story.

Rochester will face SHG on Friday night at 5 p.m. at Pleasant Plains as the Rockets look to keep their postseason run alive.
