Curtis, Key Lead Monticello to Straight-Set Win Over St. Teresa

Monticello received contributions across its lineup as the Sages defeated St. Teresa in straight sets, earning a 25-18, 25-20 volleyball victory.

Hayden Curtis and Thea Key led Monticello’s offense, combining for 17 kills. Curtis finished with a team-high nine, while Key added eight kills and five digs, contributing on both sides of the ball.

The Sages took the opening set 25-18 to establish a 1-0 advantage. St. Teresa finished closer in the second set, but Monticello secured the 25-20 result to complete the sweep without needing a deciding third set.

Monticello finished with 24 kills, receiving offensive support beyond its two leading attackers. Emily Matthews recorded three kills, while Kami Churchill and Millie Hollingsworth added two apiece. That production gave the Sages several scoring options at the net.

Emma Arnold and Avery Melton helped organize the offense, recording nine and eight assists, respectively. Both also contributed defensively with five digs each, tying Key for the team lead. Arnold and Melton each added a service ace to round out their performances.

Macie Owen led Monticello at the service line with two aces. She also recorded two digs and two assists, providing another versatile contribution in the victory. The Sages totaled four aces for the match.

In the back row, Matthews added three digs, while Emma Lawhead contributed two digs and two assists. Curtis chipped in a dig alongside her team-leading kill total.

Madison Highland supplied two blocks, adding a defensive presence at the net to complement Monticello’s back-row work.

With Curtis and Key providing much of the finishing power, Arnold and Melton distributing the ball, and several teammates contributing defensively and at the service line, Monticello put together a balanced effort to claim both sets against the Bulldogs.
