Sages So Close

The Monticello Sages entered postseason play at 9–2 and stepped into a familiar environment against longtime opponent Tolono Unity. The Sages came out firing, taking a fast 14–0 lead in the first quarter and setting the tone early. But Unity responded, battling back to claim a 21–14 advantage as the game tightened in the second half.

Monticello answered with a strong drive down the field, punching in a touchdown to pull within one. Electing to go for the two-point conversion and the lead, the attempt came up just short. Despite their relentless effort, the Sages fell in a heartbreaking 20–21 final. Still, Monticello’s season was nothing short of superb — a year defined by grit, big moments, and outstanding work from a talented squad that represented their community with pride.
