Glenwood Uses Strong First Half to Top Rochester, 3-0

The Rochester Rockets hit the road Tuesday evening for a Central State Eight matchup against Chatham Glenwood, but an early offensive surge from the Titans proved too much to overcome as Glenwood earned a 3-0 victory.

Glenwood entered the contest unbeaten and quickly demonstrated why, finding the back of the net just three minutes into the match. Junior Connor Wietfeldt opened the scoring for the Titans, giving Glenwood an early 1-0 advantage and putting Rochester in the position of having to chase the match.

The Titans added to their lead in the 14th minute when senior Keaton Marconi converted a penalty kick, pushing Glenwood’s advantage to 2-0.

Rochester continued working to settle into the match, but Glenwood found another opportunity before halftime. Senior McKenzie Doe scored the Titans’ third goal of the evening, sending Glenwood into the break with a 3-0 lead.

Despite facing a three-goal deficit, the Rockets responded with a much stronger defensive showing after halftime.

Rochester kept Glenwood off the scoreboard for the entirety of the second half, preventing the Titans from adding to their advantage. While the Rockets were unable to generate the goal they needed to begin a comeback, holding Glenwood scoreless over the final 40 minutes provided a positive response after the difficult opening half.

The 3-0 score held through the final whistle, giving Glenwood the conference victory. The result moved the Titans to 10-0-1 on the season, while Rochester fell to 3-6-2.

For Glenwood, the victory continued an impressive defensive run as well. The Titans have not surrendered a goal over their last five home matches, while Tuesday’s result marked another shutout for the unbeaten squad.

For Rochester, the night was highlighted by its ability to regroup defensively in the second half against a strong Glenwood side. After conceding three times before halftime, the Rockets prevented any further damage and battled through the final whistle.

Rochester will look to regroup quickly with another challenging matchup ahead, as the Rockets are scheduled to return home Thursday to face Edwardsville at 6:30 p.m.

FINAL: Chatham Glenwood 3, Rochester 0
Halftime: Glenwood 3, Rochester 0
