Central A&M found itself playing from behind for much of Friday night’s matchup, as Warrensburg-Latham built an early advantage and pulled away in the second half to hand the Raiders a 34-7 loss.
Warrensburg-Latham opened the scoring with 3:05 remaining in the first quarter. Devonte Curtis took advantage of a missed snap, recovering the ball for a touchdown to give the Cardinals an early 7-0 advantage.
The Cardinals added to their lead late in the second quarter when Donnie Pratt hauled in a touchdown reception with 3.9 seconds remaining before halftime. The score sent Central A&M into the break trailing 14-0.
Warrensburg-Latham continued to build momentum coming out of halftime. Pratt found the end zone through the air for the second time with 9:39 remaining in the third quarter, extending the Cardinals’ advantage to 21-0.
Just over three minutes later, Brennon Bonds scored out of the wildcat formation on a rushing touchdown, pushing Warrensburg-Latham’s lead to 28-0.
Central A&M continued battling and finally broke through late in the third quarter.
With 54.4 seconds remaining in the period, Rhett McLain kept the ball himself and scored on a quarterback keeper, putting the Raiders on the board and cutting the deficit to 28-7.
The touchdown gave Central A&M some life heading into the final quarter, but the Raiders were unable to build on the momentum. Warrensburg-Latham’s defense kept CAM out of the end zone the rest of the way.
The Cardinals added their final score with 7:05 remaining in the fourth quarter when Joey Dominick hauled in a touchdown reception. That extended the advantage to 34-7 and ultimately completed the night’s scoring.
For Warrensburg-Latham, the victory featured contributions from several different players. Pratt led the scoring effort with two receiving touchdowns, while Curtis provided a defensive/special-situation score on the recovered snap. Bonds added a rushing touchdown, and Dominick accounted for the Cardinals’ final trip to the end zone.
Central A&M’s lone touchdown came from McLain, who provided the Raiders with a spark late in the third quarter. With limited individual statistics available from the matchup, the full offensive and defensive totals could not be confirmed.
Ultimately, Warrensburg-Latham’s ability to capitalize on opportunities and consistently keep Central A&M out of the end zone proved to be the difference. The Cardinals scored in all four quarters and carried a two-touchdown advantage into halftime before creating further separation in the third.
The Raiders continued to compete despite falling into a four-touchdown deficit and were rewarded with McLain’s third-quarter touchdown, but the early hole proved too difficult to overcome as Warrensburg-Latham closed out the 34-7 victory over Central A&M.
