Unity Christian sweeps Salt Fork, punches ticket to Sectional Championship -

Decatur Unity Christian, who have looked electric all season long, took on Salt Fork Tuesday night in a Sectional Semifinal matchup with a spot in the championship on the line.

The Lions came out firing in the opening set, taking control early behind Laila Turn, who led the way with nine kills on the night. Unity Christian dominated the first set, taking it 25-16.

The Lions showed no signs of slowing down in the second set. Cameron Brown had a strong night, contributing five kills and 11 assists as Unity continued to control the match. Salt Fork battled, but the Lions proved to be too much, closing out the second set 25-18 to secure the sweep.

With the win, Unity Christian advances to the Sectional Championship, where they will face Windsor-Stew/Stras on Thursday night at 6 p.m. at Windsor High School.

Following the victory, ILSportsWire caught up with Brielle Bunch to discuss the team’s performance and the incredible support from the student section.

Bunch credited the team’s chemistry and execution as a major factor in the victory.

“We really just came together as a team. Our setter-hitter connection was really well, and our passers did very good this game,” Bunch said.

She also spoke about the impact of the student section, which made the hour-long trip to support the Lions.

“They were great. Super loud,” Bunch said. “They definitely showed up tonight and made an impact in the game.”

Unity Christian now turns its attention to Thursday night, with a sectional championship and a trip to the next round on the line.
