Friese and Conder lead WSS Hatchets past ALAH in Sectional Semifinal -

Windsor-Stewardson-Strasburg took on ALAH in a Sectional Semifinal matchup Tuesday night, with two teams coming off big seasons ready to clash for a spot in the championship.

The Hatchets came out firing in the opening set, led by Mya Friese, who was a force throughout the night. WSS took control early and secured the first set 25-19.

The second set brought a much closer battle as ALAH found its rhythm and pushed the Hatchets throughout the set. However, the depth and determination of WSS proved to be too much as the Hatchets completed the sweep, winning in straight sets and punching their ticket to the Sectional Championship.

Friese led the way with an impressive performance, finishing with 2 aces, 12 kills, 1 assist, and 16 digs. Zoey Conder was equally impactful at the net, recording 7 blocks and adding 6 kills and 1 dig.

Following the win, we caught up with Conder to discuss the team’s performance, the intensity of the postseason, and the impact of the student section.

Conder credited the team’s intensity as a major factor in the victory, explaining that the energy helped the Hatchets stay motivated and play with confidence.

She also spoke about the student section and how its constant support helps fuel the team. From the loud cheers to the funny comments directed toward the opposing team, Conder said the crowd brings energy, keeps the players smiling, and helps build momentum on the court.

The Hatchets now turn their attention to Thursday night, where they will face Decatur Unity Christian with a Sectional Championship and a trip to the next round on the line.
