Mt. Pulaski Hilltoppers Cruise to 7–1 Victory

A dominant performance on the mound paired with timely, disciplined hitting powered the Mt. Pulaski Varsity Hilltoppers to a 7–1 win in commanding fashion.

Preston Cowan set the tone early and never let up, turning in a complete-game performance that anchored the Hilltoppers from start to finish. The right-hander allowed just three hits and one earned run across seven innings while striking out six. Efficient and in control throughout, Cowan threw 96 pitches—63 for strikes—and limited opposing opportunities by consistently working ahead in the count.

Mt. Pulaski’s offense backed him with a well-rounded effort, totaling nine hits and drawing eight walks. The Hilltoppers showed patience at the plate and executed in key situations, particularly with runners in scoring position.

Caden Wyler led the offensive production, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. His early impact helped Mt. Pulaski seize momentum in the opening inning, where the Hilltoppers plated three runs to establish control. Tyler Cross contributed a hit, an RBI, and a run scored, while Jaeden Jackson added an RBI of his own. Luke Martin and Keoni Charron each recorded hits as part of the team’s balanced attack.

A defining element of the game was Mt. Pulaski’s ability to manufacture runs without relying solely on extra-base hits. The Hilltoppers recorded three sacrifice flies—two from Chase Roberts and one from Jackson—demonstrating strong situational awareness and execution.

After building a 3–0 lead in the first inning, Mt. Pulaski continued to apply pressure. Additional runs in the second and third innings extended the advantage, while Cowan helped his own cause with a run-scoring double in the fifth inning to further separate the score.

Defensively, the Hilltoppers remained steady, committing just one error while supporting their pitcher with consistent fielding behind him.

In total, the performance reflected a complete team effort—dominant pitching, opportunistic offense, and fundamentally sound defense. With this win, Mt. Pulaski continues to demonstrate the consistency and depth needed to compete at a high level as the season progresses.
