Clinton Sweeps Riverton in Straight Sets

The Clinton Maroons opened their varsity volleyball season on a strong note Tuesday night, putting together a consistent performance to earn a 2-0 sweep over the Riverton Hawks at Hawk Center.

Clinton captured both sets by identical 25-19 scores, maintaining control throughout much of the match while holding off Riverton’s attempts to close the gap.

The Maroons established themselves early in the opening set. After the teams battled through the early stages, Clinton began creating separation and steadily built its advantage. Riverton continued to compete and kept the Maroons within reach, but Clinton answered when needed and maintained its composure down the stretch.

With Riverton looking for a late push, the Maroons closed out the opening frame 25-19 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The second set brought another competitive battle between the two sides.

Riverton responded to Clinton’s strong opening set and challenged the Maroons throughout the frame, but Clinton again found ways to stay in front. The Maroons remained steady as the set progressed, preventing the Hawks from putting together the extended run they needed to swing momentum.

Clinton’s ability to protect its advantage proved decisive once again. The Maroons reached the finish line with another 25-19 victory, completing the straight-set sweep.

While the final result belonged to Clinton, Riverton remained competitive throughout the night and forced the Maroons to continue executing through the closing points of both sets. Ultimately, Clinton’s consistency and ability to finish proved to be the difference.

The victory gives the Maroons and head coach Morgan Hickman a strong start to the 2026 campaign, with Clinton taking care of business in two sets on the road.

For Riverton and head coach Carmen Lanham, the Hawks showed stretches of competitive play but were unable to overcome the Maroons’ steady performance across the two sets.
