On Saturday, February 14, 2026, the South Fork Lady Ponies hosted the Lincolnwood Lady Lancers at South Fork High School for the first regional matchup of the 2026 girls basketball postseason. What started as a strong showing for South Fork turned into a dramatic battle that required overtime to decide.
First Half
South Fork came out strong from the opening tip, attacking the basket and showing no signs of slowing down offensively. The Lady Ponies jumped out to an early lead thanks to aggressive defense and solid ball movement. Lincolnwood struggled to find clean looks against South Fork’s defensive pressure, making it difficult for the Lady Lancers to get into rhythm.
The first half featured several fouls, and South Fork capitalized at the free-throw line. Those extra points proved valuable in building separation on the scoreboard. By halftime, the Lady Ponies held a 21–12 advantage and appeared to have full control of the game.
Second Half
Lincolnwood came out of the locker room with a new mindset and determination to claw their way back. The Lady Lancers tightened up defensively in the third quarter, holding South Fork to just a few points while chipping away at the lead.
South Fork struggled at times to maintain possession and find consistent scoring, allowing Lincolnwood to take advantage. By the fourth quarter, the Lady Lancers had cut the deficit to just a few points. In the final seconds of regulation, Lincolnwood knocked down a clutch three-pointer to tie the game and send it into overtime, turning the regional matchup into anyone’s contest.
Overtime
When overtime began, South Fork quickly regained composure. The Lady Ponies secured possession and converted a couple of key baskets to regain the lead. Once they found that edge, they refused to let it slip away.
South Fork locked in defensively, limiting Lincolnwood’s opportunities while answering every score with one of their own. Their determination and resilience paid off as they pulled away in the extra period.
When the final buzzer sounded, South Fork claimed a 49–40 overtime victory, advancing in regional play. The Lady Ponies showed heart, grit, and perseverance, proving they were willing to put in the blood, sweat, and tears necessary to come out on top in postseason basketball.
