On Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Stewardson-Strasburg High School, the Central A&M Lady Raiders faced off against the Stewardson-Strasburg Lady Hatchets in the opening round of the IHSA Girls Basketball Regionals. From the opening tip to the final buzzer, it was a battle that could have gone either way.
First Half
The Lady Hatchets controlled the opening tip and wasted no time getting on the board, immediately showing the Lady Raiders they would have to earn every point. Central A&M responded with strong defensive pressure and crisp ball movement on offense, working to create open looks and match Stewardson-Strasburg’s early intensity.
The Hatchets used their quickness and physicality to gain a slight edge, but the Lady Raiders refused to back down. Every run was answered, and the game remained tight throughout the first two quarters. At halftime, Stewardson-Strasburg held a narrow two-point lead, setting the stage for an exciting second half.
Second Half
Central A&M came out of the locker room with added aggression and confidence, knocking down key shots and briefly taking the lead. However, the Lady Hatchets answered each time, and the game featured multiple lead changes from the third quarter into the fourth.
With the crowd fully engaged, the fourth quarter turned into a neck-and-neck battle. Both teams fought for every possession, knowing one mistake could decide the outcome. In the final seconds, the Lady Raiders were forced to foul in an attempt to regain possession. The Lady Hatchets capitalized at the free-throw line, converting two key shots to extend the lead to five points.
Despite a valiant effort, Central A&M was unable to close the gap, and the final buzzer sounded with Stewardson-Strasburg securing a 52–47 victory.
Season Comes to a Close
The loss brings the Lady Raiders’ season to an end, but not without pride. Central A&M battled until the final seconds and proved they belonged on the regional stage. Making it to regionals was an accomplishment in itself, and the team’s hard work and determination were on full display.
Though the season ends in heartbreak, the Lady Raiders leave with their heads held high after a hard-fought 52–47 contest.
