Rochester Girls Outlast SHG in Gritty 50-43 Win

The Rochester Rockets girls basketball team picked up an impressive non-conference victory on Thursday night, outlasting Sacred Heart-Griffin 50-43 in an energetic and competitive matchup.

Rochester set the tone early, controlling the pace from the opening tip. The Lady Rockets came out firing with a pair of early three-pointers and capitalized at the free-throw line, building an early advantage before the Cyclones were able to get on the scoreboard. That fast start proved valuable as SHG settled in and began to find its rhythm.

Sacred Heart-Griffin showed resilience throughout the night, slowly chipping away at the Rockets’ lead and applying pressure late in the second half. Despite the Cyclones’ push, Rochester leaned on senior leadership and relentless effort down the stretch. Delaney Farris, Alaina Stock, and Mylie Deatherage showcased strong hustle and defensive intensity to help secure the Rockets’ second straight win.

With the victory, Rochester improves to 5-7 on the season, while Sacred Heart-Griffin drops to 3-7. The Lady Rockets now turn their attention to a road matchup at Clinton on Monday, their final game before the Holiday Tournament begins on December 26.

Following the win, senior Mylie Deatherage emphasized the team’s mindset heading into the final week before the break, stressing the importance of taking things one game at a time and continuing to improve with each practice.
