In a tightly contested back-and-forth matchup, the Shelbyville Varsity Rams 2026 squad held off St. Teresa for a 7-6 victory on Tuesday, powered by a standout performance from Kenzie Jones.
Jones was nearly unstoppable at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles and two singles. She delivered key hits in multiple innings, helping fuel Shelbyville’s offense in a game that featured several momentum swings.
St. Teresa struck first in the top of the third inning, using timely extra-base hits to take control. Emery Krieger delivered the big blow with a two-run double, putting St. Teresa on the board and giving them an early advantage.
Shelbyville responded quickly in the bottom half of the inning. Trailing 3-0, the Rams rallied to take a 4-3 lead behind a combination of clutch hitting and capitalizing on mistakes. Jones drove in a run with a double, Adison Musser followed with an RBI single, and two runs scored on a St. Teresa error to complete the comeback.
The lead didn’t last long, as St. Teresa answered in the top of the fourth. Taking advantage of a Shelbyville error, along with an RBI double from Avery Harrison and a run-scoring single by Krieger, St. Teresa reclaimed the lead in another momentum-shifting inning.
Once again, Shelbyville had an answer.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Rams regained control of the game. A St. Teresa error allowed a run to score, Jones continued her dominant day with another RBI double down the right field line, and Aylah Logan added an RBI single to give Shelbyville a 7-6 lead they would not relinquish.
From there, pitching and defense took center stage.
Jasmine Wildman went the distance in the circle for Shelbyville, turning in a strong and resilient performance. The right-hander pitched all seven innings, allowing six runs—only three of them earned—on 10 hits while striking out eight and walking two. Wildman worked out of multiple tough situations and kept St. Teresa from delivering a late game-tying hit.
St. Teresa’s Avery Harrison also logged a complete game, giving up seven runs (five earned) on 15 hits while striking out four and walking three.
Shelbyville’s offense was firing on all cylinders, finishing with 15 hits in the game. In addition to Jones’ perfect day, Wildman, Alexis Jokisch, and Logan each recorded multiple hits, contributing to a balanced and consistent offensive effort.
St. Teresa also put together a solid performance at the plate, totaling 10 hits. Krieger led the way with three RBIs from the heart of the lineup, going 2-for-4, while Harrison set the tone at the top with three hits in five at-bats.
In the end, Shelbyville’s ability to respond to every challenge and execute in key moments proved to be the difference in a game filled with momentum swings.
The Rams will look to carry that momentum into their next matchup as they travel to face the Neoga Varsity Indians on Wednesday.
