Tuscola Holds Off Shelbyville for 32-20 Victory

The Shelbyville Rams and Tuscola Warriors battled Friday night in Tuscola, with both teams putting together productive stretches before the Warriors ultimately defended their home field with a 32-20 victory.

Tuscola built an early advantage and carried a 14-6 lead into halftime, but Shelbyville refused to let the game get away. The Rams responded with a stronger offensive showing after the break, scoring 14 second-half points and forcing the Warriors to continue answering throughout the night.

Shelbyville quarterback Owen Beyers helped guide the Rams’ offense, while a group that included Collin Jones, Kit Ulmer, Wade Reid, Jayce Davis, Ezra McConnell and Rylan Murphy gave Shelbyville multiple options on the offensive side of the football.

Facing an eight-point halftime deficit, Shelbyville continued to battle in the third and fourth quarters. The Rams found more success moving the football and were able to put points on the board, keeping pressure on Tuscola as the Warriors attempted to maintain their advantage.

Tuscola countered with a productive rushing attack of its own. Cohen Jones was a major contributor on the ground for the Warriors, finishing the night with 105 rushing yards and helping Tuscola sustain drives.

Quarterback Jon Pettry also contributed to the Warriors’ offensive effort, while Austin Bennett, Tyler Pierce and Kingston Wheeler were among the players giving Tuscola options on both sides of the football.

The back-and-forth second half became an important stretch for both teams. Shelbyville continued to find ways to respond offensively, while Tuscola produced 18 points after halftime to keep the Rams from completely closing the gap.

Shelbyville’s 20-point performance showed plenty of fight from head coach Bill Duckett’s squad. After being limited to six points over the opening two quarters, the Rams more than doubled their offensive output in the second half and continued competing until the final whistle.

On the opposite sideline, head coach Andy Romine’s Warriors were able to protect their advantage behind a combination of their ground attack, timely offensive production and defensive stops. Tuscola’s ability to answer Shelbyville’s second-half scoring ultimately prevented the Rams from completing the comeback.

While Tuscola walked away with the victory, the matchup featured positives on both sidelines. The Warriors showed an ability to establish a lead and protect it, while Shelbyville demonstrated resilience by responding to an early deficit and producing a much stronger second half on the road.

When the final whistle sounded, Tuscola had done enough to secure the win, 32-20, in a hard-fought varsity matchup between the Warriors and Rams.

Final: Tuscola 32, Shelbyville 20
