South Fork traveled to Decatur Unity Christian Friday night and took care of business in a big way, shutting out the Lions 44-0 behind a dominant defensive performance and explosive plays on offense and special teams.
The Ponies set the tone from the opening quarter and never allowed Unity Christian to find any momentum.
First Quarter: Ponies Set the Tone
South Fork got on the board early with Hudson Hout finding the end zone.
After forcing a turnover on downs, the Ponies struck again, with Stephon Shanks scoring his first touchdown of the night.
The South Fork defense continued to make life difficult for the Lions, forcing another punt.
That punt turned into one of the biggest plays of the night.
Beck Swinger fielded the punt and raced 81 yards to the end zone for a special-teams touchdown, adding another explosive score for the Ponies.
The defense wasn’t done.
South Fork forced a fumble on fourth down and recovered it, capping off a dominant opening quarter in which the Ponies controlled the game on all three sides.
Second Quarter: Turnovers Keep Coming
The second quarter brought more of the same.
Unity Christian threw an interception, and the South Fork defense continued to create opportunities.
Another turnover followed, and the Ponies took advantage once again.
Carter Foli, No. 40, hauled in a touchdown pass to extend South Fork’s lead.
The Lions continued to struggle against the South Fork defense, and Kaiden Kee, No. 7, came away with another interception.
South Fork headed into halftime firmly in control.
Third Quarter: Running Clock in Effect
South Fork didn’t let up after halftime.
The Ponies forced another turnover early in the third quarter before Stephon Shanks found the end zone for his second touchdown of the night.
With South Fork’s lead continuing to grow, the running clock came into effect.
The Ponies added another turnover later in the quarter, continuing a night where the defense repeatedly put the offense in excellent field position.
Fourth Quarter: Shutout Complete
Unity Christian finally forced a turnover of its own in the fourth quarter, recovering a South Fork fumble at the Lions’ 5-yard line.
Unity moved the ball upfield from there, but the South Fork defense once again stood tall, preventing the Lions from turning the opportunity into points.
The final horn sounded with South Fork on top 44-0, completing a shutout road victory.
