The Mt. Pulaski Hilltoppers captured the conference championship with a thrilling 4-3 walk-off win over the Athens Warriors on Wednesday night.
Athens got on the board first in the opening inning when Wyatt Gleason drove in Braxton Rexroad with an RBI single. Mt. Pulaski tied the game in the second inning before Athens took the lead again in the fourth on an RBI single from Cole Ishmael.
The Hilltoppers answered in the bottom of the fourth as Tyler Cross tied the game with an RBI single. Athens grabbed a 3-2 lead in the seventh after Owen Alderman drove in Carter Brock, but Mt. Pulaski responded in the bottom half. Preston Cowan reached on an error to tie the game before Chase Roberts delivered the walk-off RBI single to score Skyler Durst for the conference-clinching victory.
