Tornadoes Find Their Rhythm, Roll Past Charleston 50–33

After enduring one of their toughest weeks of the season, the Taylorville Tornadoes boys basketball team knew it was time to respond. Hosting Charleston on Friday night, led by all-time scoring leader Tyler Oakley, Taylorville delivered a much-needed bounce-back performance on both ends of the floor.

The game opened at a slow pace for both teams, with offense hard to come by early. Oakley finally broke through for Charleston with an and-one, but Taylorville countered with strong energy from Wyatt Younker, who stepped into the starting lineup with Malique Pearse sidelined due to suspension. Younker brought immediate hustle and pace, helping spark the Tornadoes.

While Taylorville’s offense took time to settle in, the defense was locked in during the second quarter. The Tornadoes made life difficult for Charleston, forcing tough shots and limiting scoring opportunities. That defensive intensity paid off as Taylorville carried a 23–13 lead into halftime.

The third quarter was all Taylorville—and especially Brock Brown. Brown caught fire, knocking down multiple triples and shifting momentum firmly in the Tornadoes’ favor. Maddyx Owens complemented the scoring surge with relentless on-ball defense, clamping down Charleston’s guards while contributing at the offensive end.

Taylorville continued to pull away down the stretch, overwhelming the Trojans with balanced scoring and disciplined defense. By the final buzzer, the Tornadoes had secured a convincing 50–33 victory.

The win comes at the perfect time for Taylorville, restoring confidence as they prepare for the Route 29 rivalry showdown at Pana on Saturday night—a game that now carries renewed momentum and energy.
