On Senior Night, the Pana Panthers girls’ basketball team faced a tough challenge, hosting the Newton Eagles in a matchup that tested their resolve from start to finish. Despite a determined effort and strong energy throughout the night, the Panthers came up short, falling 61–37.
Newton set the tone early, jumping out to a 19–11 lead by the end of the first quarter. Even while managing early foul trouble, the Eagles played aggressively on both ends of the floor, creating pressure that Pana worked hard to counter.
The Panthers continued to show grit in the second quarter, fighting to build momentum and stay within striking distance. However, turnovers and timely steals by Newton allowed the Eagles to stretch their advantage. By halftime, Newton held a 38–20 lead in a fast-paced, physical contest.
Coming out of the break, Pana responded with noticeably stronger intensity. The Panthers played with more physicality on offense and defense, refusing to back down and continuing to battle possession by possession. While the effort never wavered, Newton’s consistency and depth proved difficult to overcome.
Though the Panthers fell short on the scoreboard, their fight until the final buzzer stood out on a special Senior Night. Pana’s effort and determination ensured the game was anything but easy for the Eagles, as the Panthers competed with pride in front of their home crowd.
