Monticello Sages Pull Away Late to Defeat Prairie Central, 9–3

A dominant all-around performance, highlighted by a big middle-inning surge and a complete-game effort on the mound, powered the Monticello Sages to a 9–3 victory over Prairie Central.

After surrendering an early three-run home run in the top of the first inning, Monticello quickly regrouped and took control of the game with consistent offensive pressure and timely hitting.

The Sages began their comeback in the third inning, stringing together extra-base hits to even the score. Koyie Williams and Cole Basak each delivered doubles during the rally, helping Monticello chip away at the deficit and shift momentum.

Monticello continued to build on that energy in the fourth inning when Dawson Gaitros came through with a run-scoring single to give the Sages the lead for good. From there, the offense remained relentless.

The game broke open in the sixth inning, where Monticello plated multiple runs to put Prairie Central away. Williams once again played a key role, driving in runs with another extra-base hit, while Jake Motsegood and Forrest Rawdin added RBI singles to extend the lead. The Sages capitalized on opportunities with runners on base, executing consistently and forcing Prairie Central into difficult situations defensively.

Williams led the offensive attack with a standout performance, finishing with multiple hits and three RBIs. Basak also contributed two hits and an RBI, while Gaitros added a pair of runs scored and key production near the top of the lineup. Rawdin scattered just one hit over the final six innings, allowing three runs while striking out six and maintaining control throughout.

Defensively, Monticello backed its pitcher with solid play in the field, minimizing mistakes and keeping Prairie Central from generating additional scoring opportunities.
