The Clinton Maroons put together a strong effort on the mound and flashed solid defense throughout the afternoon, but a few timely hits from Lincoln proved to be the difference in a hard-fought 3-0 loss to the Railsplitters.
The game was a tightly contested pitchers’ duel for much of the afternoon, highlighted by an impressive complete-game performance from Clinton pitcher Brock Wilson. Wilson worked all six innings, allowing just five hits and one earned run while striking out three.
Lincoln struck first in the opening inning after capitalizing on traffic on the bases. The Railsplitters pushed across two runs with the help of a hit batter, a walk, and an error to take an early 2-0 advantage despite recording only one hit in the frame.
From there, Wilson settled in nicely for Clinton. The right-hander consistently worked out of trouble and kept the Maroons within striking distance. He retired multiple Lincoln hitters in key situations, including a strikeout of Cooper Koehler in the fourth inning and several routine fly-ball outs that helped limit further damage.
Clinton generated scoring opportunities throughout the contest but was unable to deliver the timely hit needed to break through.
In the first inning, Josh Bass and Stone Stith both reached base, with Stith delivering a sharp single to right field. Later in the second inning, Mitchell Cornwell lined a single to left and Jaxon Reynolds worked a walk to create another opportunity for the Maroons, but Lincoln escaped the inning with a strikeout to preserve the shutout.
The Maroons continued applying pressure in the third when Ryan Pine singled to center and Jack Manning drew a walk, putting runners aboard once again. However, Lincoln’s defense came through with key outs to end the threat.
Lincoln added its final run in the fourth inning on a double by Kane Komnick that scored Tate Aue, extending the Railsplitters’ lead to 3-0.
Clinton’s defense responded with several strong plays to keep the game close. A critical double play in the bottom of the third helped prevent Lincoln from adding to its lead, while solid work in the field from Jack Manning, Ryan Pine, and Jaxon Reynolds helped the Maroons stay within reach.
Offensively, Clinton finished with four hits on the day. Stone Stith, Mitchell Cornwell, Ryan Pine, and Emmett Brown each recorded hits for the Maroons, while Josh Bass drew a pair of walks.
Despite the loss, Clinton showed resilience throughout the game against a tough Lincoln squad. Wilson’s strong outing on the mound and the Maroons’ defensive effort kept the contest competitive from start to finish in what turned into a classic low-scoring baseball battle.
