Edinburg Wildcats get taken down by Carlyle Indians in Regionals Tournament

The season came to a close Wednesday night for the Edinburg Wildcats, but not without a fight.

In the IHSA Class 1A Regional Semifinals, Edinburg squared off against the Carlyle Indians at Bunker Hill High School in Bunker Hill. With a spot in Friday’s regional championship on the line, the Wildcats battled hard before ultimately falling 64–31, bringing their 2025–26 campaign to an end.

First Half: Carlyle’s Defense Sets the Pace

Edinburg wasted no time showing its energy, winning the opening tip and attacking early. The Wildcats looked poised and ready for the postseason moment, but they quickly ran into a disciplined and relentless Carlyle defense.

Driving lanes were cut off. Perimeter shooters were pressured. Every possession felt contested.

With limited open looks, Edinburg was forced into tough shots in the paint and contested three-point attempts. Despite their effort, clean scoring opportunities were difficult to come by. Meanwhile, Carlyle capitalized on nearly every Wildcat misstep. Offensive rebounds turned into second-chance points, and turnovers quickly became transition baskets.

The Indians controlled the tempo and steadily built separation on the scoreboard. By halftime, Carlyle had extended its lead to 38–17, leaving Edinburg searching for answers in the locker room.

Second Half: Wildcats Show Heart

Facing a significant deficit, the Wildcats returned to the floor with determination. Defensive intensity picked up, and Edinburg worked to slow Carlyle’s rhythm. The Wildcats showed resilience, battling on the boards and diving for loose balls in an effort to spark momentum.

But postseason basketball often comes down to execution — and Carlyle remained composed.

The Indians continued to move the ball efficiently, finding open shooters and converting inside opportunities. Even when Edinburg strung together defensive stops, the offense struggled to find consistent scoring. Every run the Wildcats attempted was answered by Carlyle on the other end.

Despite the uphill climb, Edinburg never backed down. The effort and fight were evident until the final buzzer.

When the clock hit zero, Carlyle secured the 64–31 victory to advance.

A Season of Growth and Pride

Though the loss marks the end of the road, it does not overshadow the heart displayed by Edinburg throughout the season. The Wildcats represented their school and community with pride, battling through challenges and earning their place in postseason play.

For the seniors, Wednesday night marked their final time wearing the Edinburg black and gold — a moment filled with emotion and reflection. Their leadership and dedication helped shape the identity of this year’s team. We wish the Seniors the best on their Futures.

Carlyle will move on to face Bunker Hill in Friday’s Class 1A Regional Championship at Bunker Hill.

As for Edinburg, the scoreboard may have closed the season, but the memories, effort, and growth from the 2025–26 campaign will last far beyond one February night.
