The Rochester Rockets ran into a strong performance on both sides of the ball from Normal University, falling 11–0 despite battling throughout the contest.
Normal University seized control early and never relinquished momentum, capitalizing on key opportunities and timely power hitting. A pivotal moment came in the fourth inning when a two-run home run extended the lead, followed by a late surge in the seventh that put the game out of reach.
Rochester’s pitching staff showed resilience against a disciplined lineup that consistently applied pressure. Starter Sean Plessa worked through five innings, allowing three runs while competing through traffic on the bases. The Rockets utilized multiple arms out of the bullpen, with Finn Bruce and Alex Eldridge each seeing time on the mound as they worked to contain Normal’s offense.
Despite those efforts, Normal University strung together 11 Runs and took advantage of free passes, turning walks and hit batters into scoring opportunities—particularly during a decisive sixth-inning rally.
Offensively, Rochester found limited success against a dominant outing from Normal’s starter, Cade Cunningham. The Rockets managed just one hit on the day—a single from Sam Ferris—while striking out 12 times. Cunningham controlled the strike zone throughout, preventing Rochester from establishing any consistent rhythm at the plate.
Rochester did show patience in stretches, drawing a pair of walks and forcing deeper counts, but was ultimately unable to generate the timely hits needed to mount a threat.
Defensively, the Rockets battled but were hurt by an error that contributed to Normal’s offensive momentum. Against a team executing at a high level, those extra opportunities proved costly.
While the result was not in their favor, the Rockets will look to regroup and build on the positives, particularly the early innings on the mound and their continued effort against a tough opponent. Rochester aims to respond with a more complete performance as they prepare for their next matchup.
