The Taylorville Tornadoes boys basketball team looked to complete a season sweep of the Mt. Zion Braves on the road, but a tough defensive battle and a cold second half proved costly.
The opening half was a physical, defense-heavy contest, with both teams working for every basket. Taylorville stayed within striking distance, but Mt. Zion held a 24–20 lead at the break. The Braves fed off the energy of a loud home crowd celebrating senior night, making it difficult for the Tornadoes to find any offensive rhythm.
Taylorville’s struggles continued after halftime, as shots stopped falling and scoring opportunities were limited. The Tornadoes managed just 12 points in the second half, while Mt. Zion took control of the pace and extended its lead. Despite the defensive effort, Taylorville was unable to close the gap and fell 50–32.
Taylorville will now shift its focus to postseason play. The Tornadoes travel to Triad High School on Wednesday to open regional action against the Chatham Glenwood Titans, looking to regroup and make a run when it matters most.
