Second-Half Surge Lifts Decatur MacArthur Past Rochester

On Friday night, January 30, at Decatur MacArthur High School, the Decatur MacArthur Generals hosted the Rochester Rockets in a hard-fought boys basketball matchup that featured physical play and momentum swings throughout.

The Generals opened the game by winning the tip-off, but both teams immediately struggled to find a rhythm offensively. Rochester’s defense created early problems for Decatur, while the Rockets found it difficult to break down the Generals on the other end. The first quarter set the tone, with both teams trading baskets and focusing heavily on defensive stops.

By the second quarter, Decatur began to find its chemistry. The Generals moved the ball more effectively and started creating quality scoring opportunities, while Rochester’s offense stalled. Costly turnovers and miscommunication allowed Decatur to capitalize, building a steady lead. Rochester responded late in the half by settling back into the game, but the Generals maintained control heading into halftime with a 33–26 advantage.

Coming out of the break, the Rockets showed renewed energy. Rochester increased its defensive pressure and briefly cut the deficit to just a two-to-four point margin. The intensity picked up on both sides, leading to frequent whistles as fouls mounted. Free throws became a key factor as each team looked to gain an edge at the line.

Despite Rochester’s push, the Rockets began to wear down as the game progressed. Decatur took full advantage, converting possessions and maintaining their pace while Rochester struggled to keep up. The Generals steadily pulled away and never allowed the Rockets to close the gap again.

Decatur MacArthur closed out the contest with a 74–50 victory over Rochester. While the Rockets battled throughout the night, the Generals’ consistency, stamina, and execution proved to be the difference in a tough, physical matchup.
