Second-Inning Explosion Lifts Shelbyville to 7-0 Win Over Bobcats

Shelbyville took control early and never looked back, using a massive second inning to power past Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 7-0 on Tuesday.

The game turned in the bottom of the second when Shelbyville erupted for six runs. Wyatt Montgomery and Brady Brinkoetter each drew bases-loaded walks to bring in runs, setting the tone for the inning. Rylan Murphy followed with a two-run single, Austin Ulmer added an RBI groundout, and Will Stirrett capped the frame with an RBI single to make it 6-0.

That was more than enough support for Reed Dragovan, who delivered a dominant performance on the mound. Dragovan threw a complete game shutout, allowing just five hits while striking out 11 and walking two.

Shelbyville added one more run later and finished with nine hits on the night. Stirrett led the way at the plate with two hits, while the team showed patience by drawing six walks. Montgomery and Brinkoetter each worked two free passes.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Ben Askins, who went 3-for-4 at the top of the lineup and was strong defensively with seven chances handled cleanly. Despite the loss, the Bobcats did not commit an error.

Shelbyville also flashed the leather, turning a double play behind their ace to complete the shutout win.
