The Taylorville Tornadoes hosted Mt. Zion on Friday night in a highly anticipated Apollo Conference matchup, and the home crowd at the Dolph was treated to a statement performance.
Taylorville came out firing, opening the game on an 8–0 run as the gym rocked with energy and a packed house. From the opening tip, the Tornadoes controlled the tempo and never let off the gas, setting the tone on both ends of the floor.
Defense was the story of the night. Mt. Zion, a team known for its three-point shooting, was completely taken out of rhythm as Taylorville’s pressure and discipline forced tough looks and rushed possessions. The Tornadoes held the Braves to just 39 points for the game, turning what was expected to be a tight conference battle into a defensive masterclass.
Offensively, the duo of Brock Brown and Malique Pearse continued to shine. The contrasting styles of the smaller, quick guard in Brown and the bigger, smooth-shooting Pearse proved to be a tough combination to handle, with both finishing in double figures to lead the way.
With the 62–39 victory, Taylorville continues to show steady improvement as conference play heats up. The Tornadoes will now look to rest and regroup before hitting the road for a tough stretch, traveling to Litchfield to take on Hillsboro and Chatham in their next contests.
