Taylorville Defends Home Field with 5-3 Win over Nokomis

Under the lights on Friday night, the Taylorville Tornadoes hosted the Nokomis Redskins at Taylorville High School, delivering a competitive small-town matchup that ended in a 5–3 victory for the home team.

Nokomis struck first in the opening inning. After reaching base via a hit-by-pitch, the Redskins capitalized when Izaak Doyen delivered a single to bring a runner home, giving Nokomis a 1–0 lead. The inning came to a close on a strong defensive play by Taylorville center fielder Isaac Repscher, who threw out a runner at home to prevent further damage.

Taylorville answered in the second inning. Fallon Turner evened the score with a solo home run over the right-field fence, tying the game at 1–1.

The Redskins regained control in the third inning, taking advantage of a Taylorville error and adding another RBI single to build a 3–1 lead. However, the Tornadoes quickly responded. Maxx Grieme launched a home run to right field, cutting the deficit to one run and shifting momentum back toward Taylorville.

Midgame Momentum Shift

Both teams remained aggressive at the plate, looking to create scoring opportunities, but it was Taylorville that broke through again in the fifth inning.

With the bases loaded and no outs, Kason Pembroke delivered an RBI single to bring in a run. Shortly after, Colton Gatton added another with a sacrifice fly, giving the Tornadoes their first lead of the night at 4–3.

Insurance and Shutdown Pitching

Taylorville added an important insurance run in the sixth inning when Isaac Repscher powered a solo home run, extending the lead to 5–3.

From there, the Tornadoes’ defense held firm. Nokomis was unable to generate any late offense, and Taylorville closed out the game in the seventh inning to secure the win. Final Score, 5-3.

Taylorville’s balanced performance—timely hitting, key defensive plays, and late-game composure—proved to be the difference as the Tornadoes protected their home field and earned another early-season victory.
