Rochester Rockets Cruise Past West Central, 13-3, in Dominant Showing

The Rochester Varsity Rockets delivered an impressive all-around performance on Saturday, rolling to a 13-3 victory over the Biggsville West Central Varsity Heat at Scheels Sports Park at Legacy Pointe. Behind a fast start at the plate and a strong outing in the circle, Rochester controlled the game from the opening inning and never looked back.

The Rockets wasted no time setting the tone offensively in the top of the first inning. Peyton Purves got things started with a sharp single down the left field line, driving in a run. Isabella Harness followed with a productive groundout that plated another, and Payton Sitko capped off the inning by drawing a walk with the bases loaded to bring in a third run. By the end of the frame, Rochester had already built a 3-0 lead.

Rochester’s offense continued to surge in the second inning, where the game quickly broke open. The Rockets scored five runs on three hits, taking advantage of both timely hitting and defensive miscues. Mylie Deatherage drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run, and Kendall Edmonson delivered a key single that brought home two more. Rochester also capitalized on a pair of West Central errors, which allowed two additional runs to score and extended the lead even further.

The Rockets added to their advantage in the third inning when Emmah Brown grounded out to drive in another run, making it 9-0 and keeping the pressure firmly on West Central.

In the circle, Jaelyn Watts turned in a solid performance to earn the win. Watts pitched five innings, allowing just three hits and three runs—only one of which was earned—while striking out six and walking three. She effectively limited scoring opportunities and kept West Central from gaining any consistent momentum.

West Central managed to push across three runs during the game but struggled to keep pace with Rochester’s offensive output. Linny Corzatt took the loss, pitching five innings while allowing 13 runs (six earned) on 11 hits, with one strikeout and five walks.

Offensively, Rochester finished with 11 hits in a well-balanced team effort. Emmah Brown, Kendall Edmonson, Peyton Purves, and Brooklyn Thompson each recorded two hits, helping fuel the Rockets’ big day at the plate. Harness and Edmonson provided key production in the middle of the lineup, each driving in two runs.

Plate discipline also played a major role in Rochester’s success. Payton Sitko led the team with three walks, and the Rockets as a whole showed patience, drawing five walks and consistently putting pressure on West Central’s pitching staff.

For West Central, Corzatt was a bright spot offensively, going a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the team in hits.

With the win, Rochester continues to build momentum, showcasing a powerful combination of hitting depth, patience at the plate, and reliable pitching. The Rockets’ ability to score early and capitalize on opportunities proved to be the difference in Saturday’s matchup.
