The Rochester Lady Rockets were back on the court early on Monday for a Martin Luther King Jr. Day matchup, welcoming a tough Springfield High Senators squad to the RAC. With the early tip and a broken heater inside the gym, it took some time for both teams to find their rhythm and get warmed up.
The opening minutes were slow-paced as shots were hard to come by on both ends, but eventually the game began to open up. Rochester worked to create scoring opportunities, led by Alaina Stock, who once again played the role of floor general. Stock dished out several key assists, trying to spark the Rockets’ offense and keep the ball moving.
Defensively, however, Springfield proved difficult to slow down in the paint. The Senators controlled the inside, using their size and physicality to earn second-chance points and limit Rochester’s opportunities around the basket. Aniyah Rhinehouse had a big day for SHS, scoring in double figures and providing a steady scoring presence throughout the contest.
The Rockets kept the game within reach for much of the night, but Springfield put together a late run in the fourth quarter to pull away and secure the win. The Senators closed strong to take the 55–44 victory.
Rochester will look to bounce back quickly as they prepare for their next test, hosting Lincoln on Thursday night.
