On Saturday, January 31st at 3:30 p.m., the Taylorville Tornadoes welcomed the Lincoln Railers to the Taylorville High School Gym for a weekend matchup that quickly turned into a tough night for the home team.
The game opened with Taylorville scoring the first points, but momentum shifted almost immediately. Lincoln responded with an early 8-point run, putting pressure on the Tornadoes and forcing them to play from behind for most of the contest. The Railers’ defense set the tone, coming up with steals and forcing turnovers that disrupted Taylorville’s offensive rhythm.
Lincoln showed no signs of slowing down in the first half, continuing to apply pressure on both ends of the floor. The Railers’ aggressive play and disciplined defense made it difficult for Taylorville to find clean looks, while Lincoln capitalized on their opportunities to build a commanding lead. By halftime, the Railers had taken control with a 40-17 advantage.
After the break, Taylorville tried to adjust and find ways to break through Lincoln’s defense, but the Railers continued to force turnovers and keep the Tornadoes off balance. The second half became increasingly physical, with both teams playing aggressively and frequent trips to the free-throw line. Still, Lincoln never allowed Taylorville to get back within striking distance.
The Railers stayed hot from beyond the arc, consistently knocking down three-pointers over the Tornadoes’ defense, while Taylorville struggled to generate open, uncontested shots. Lincoln’s steady shooting and defensive pressure continued to widen the gap as the game went on.
The contest ended with a 73-32 final score in favor of Lincoln, as the Railers secured a decisive road victory in Taylorville’s home gym. The win also put Lincoln head coach Neil Alexander just two victories away from reaching the milestone of 1,000 career wins, adding even more significance to the Railers’ impressive performance.
