Monticello generated several quality chances in the first half, with Finet leading the attack. She was consistently dangerous in the final third, getting multiple shots off and putting pressure on the St. Thomas More defense. Despite her efforts, the Sages were unable to convert, as their attempts either went just wide or were handled by the keeper.
St. Thomas More also found opportunities of their own, but Monticello’s defense held firm early, keeping the match scoreless heading into the latter stages of the game. As the second half progressed, the physicality and urgency increased, with both teams fighting to gain momentum.
The breakthrough finally came with about 20 minutes remaining, when St. Thomas More capitalized on a set-piece opportunity. A well-placed free kick was sent into the box and ultimately found the back of the net, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
Following the goal, the Sages pushed forward in search of an equalizer. They earned a few corner kicks and created some late chances, but were unable to find the finishing touch. St. Thomas More’s defense remained composed under pressure, clearing dangerous balls and limiting clean looks on goal.
