Maroa-Forsyth established control at the line of scrimmage early Friday night and never surrendered it, pairing a turnover-producing defensive performance with plenty of offensive production to defeat the New Berlin Pretzels, 59-0.
The Trojans kept New Berlin off the scoreboard from start to finish while forcing multiple turnovers along the way. Maroa-Forsyth’s defensive front caused problems early, its secondary took over in the second quarter, and the Trojans eventually built a commanding enough advantage to send the game to a running clock in the fourth quarter.
Maroa-Forsyth’s defensive line helped set the tone from the opening quarter. The Trojans forced two New Berlin fumbles during the period and recovered one, establishing an early advantage in the battle at the line of scrimmage.
That pressure was followed by another strong defensive stretch in the second quarter, this time through the secondary.
Caden Scheuler intercepted New Berlin twice during the quarter, ending a pair of Pretzels possessions and providing Maroa-Forsyth’s offense with additional opportunities.
The Trojans also capitalized on an unusual special-teams situation during the second quarter. After New Berlin was called for encroachment on an extra-point attempt, Maroa-Forsyth elected to try a two-point conversion instead and successfully converted.
New Berlin’s defense did manage to create a late first-half takeaway of its own. With approximately 45 seconds remaining before halftime, the Pretzels intercepted a Maroa-Forsyth pass in the end zone, denying the Trojans another scoring opportunity.
The turnover, however, didn’t result in points on the other end.
Maroa-Forsyth’s defense responded by preventing New Berlin from taking advantage before halftime, preserving the shutout and continuing a trend that lasted throughout the night.
As the game moved into the second half, the Trojans continued adding to their advantage while their defense refused to allow New Berlin to break through.
Eventually, Maroa-Forsyth’s lead reached the point where a running clock was implemented during the fourth quarter, as the Trojans worked toward completing the shutout.
While 59 points on the scoreboard highlighted Maroa-Forsyth’s offensive success, the Trojans’ defensive performance played an equally important role in the lopsided result.
Maroa-Forsyth consistently controlled the line of scrimmage and generated takeaways at multiple levels of its defense. The early fumbles created by the defensive front were followed by Scheuler’s pair of second-quarter interceptions, making it difficult for New Berlin to establish sustained offensive momentum.
Scheuler, Elijah Lowe and Graham Blackwell were among the key contributors for Maroa-Forsyth throughout the game, with Scheuler’s two interceptions providing some of the biggest defensive moments of the night.
New Berlin continued competing despite the growing deficit, including coming away with the interception in its own end zone shortly before halftime, but the Pretzels were unable to turn their opportunities into points.
By the end of the night, Maroa-Forsyth had put together a complete performance highlighted by its work in the trenches, ability to force turnovers and a defense that never allowed New Berlin to reach the scoreboard.
The result was an emphatic 59-0 shutout victory for the Trojans over the Pretzels.
