Lady Maroons are putting together a season that will be remembered for a long time.
Clinton has now won 16 games in a row, establishing itself as one of the hottest teams in the area behind a powerful offense and a defense that has made life difficult for every opponent in its path. Night after night, the Maroons have controlled tempo, shared the basketball, and turned stops on the defensive end into easy scoring opportunities on the other.
A big reason for that success has been the strong play of the starting five — Clara Dempsey, Lilah Cluver, Averie Fatheree, Carly Anderson, and Avery Smith. Together, they have been a dominant force, moving the ball with purpose, showing poise under pressure, and consistently knocking down big shots. Their chemistry has allowed the offense to flow, making Clinton tough to scout and even tougher to defend.
At the center of it all is point guard Clara Dempsey, whose leadership has helped set the tone. “My job as a point guard is to give everyone a shot when they need it and make the right reads,” Dempsey said. She also pointed to preparation as a key to the team’s success, adding, “We watch a lot of film and study each team’s game plan.” That attention to detail has shown on the court, as Clinton often looks a step ahead of its opponents.
Senior Lilah Cluver says the mindset of the team starts with effort and toughness, something Coach Williams emphasizes every day. “Coach Williams always says the hardest-playing, toughest teams win. It’s about how hard we play, not a skill thing,” Cluver said. That mentality has been a major factor in Clinton’s ability to outwork opponents and maintain its winning streak.
Just as impressive as the offense has been the Lady Maroons’ lockdown defense. Clinton has used pressure, communication, and strong help-side rotations to force turnovers and limit quality looks. The defensive intensity has fueled fast breaks and scoring runs, helping turn close games into comfortable wins during the streak.
According to Carly Anderson, the strength of the team lies in its togetherness. “The way that we all work together is our biggest strength, and we have five great starters on this team that a lot of teams do not have,” Anderson said. That balance and unity have made Clinton dangerous on any given night, with multiple players capable of stepping up when it matters most.
With Coach Williams guiding the way, the focus now turns to finishing the regular season strong and carrying this momentum into the postseason. A 16-game winning streak, a high-powered offense, and a defense that refuses to back down have already made this a historic run — and the Lady Maroons are determined to keep it going when the playoffs arrive.
