The Pana Varsity Boys Basketball team took the floor tonight at Pana Senior High School looking to protect home court against the Staunton Bulldogs. The Panthers came out strong at the opening tip, scoring the first points of the game and showing early confidence.
That early momentum, however, didn’t last long.
As the first quarter progressed and into the second, Staunton settled in defensively, tightening up pressure and making scoring difficult for Pana. The Bulldogs focused on taking away the paint, contesting nearly every look inside and forcing the Panthers to move the ball around the perimeter.
With Staunton’s defense limiting interior opportunities, Pana was pushed into outside looks beyond the three-point line. The extra passing led to turnovers and frequent changes of possession, allowing the Bulldogs to capitalize and slowly build separation on the scoreboard.
By the second half, Staunton had full control of the game’s tempo. Their defensive intensity continued to disrupt Pana’s rhythm, while the Bulldogs converted opportunities on the offensive end to extend the lead.
The night ended with a final score of Staunton 66, Pana 29, as the Bulldogs made a statement on the road and showed their strength on both ends of the floor.
