Maroa-Forsyth built a commanding first-half lead and held off a second-half push from Olympia to earn a 43–21 victory Friday night.
The Trojans scored the game’s first 36 points, combining long offensive plays with a safety to take control early. Gunnar Larner contributed two rushing touchdowns, while Braeden Lee and Declan Shannon each added a touchdown reception. Jerrin Taylor and quarterback Aiden Williams also reached the end zone on the ground.
Olympia responded with three second-half rushing touchdowns, including two from quarterback Ty Olson, but Maroa-Forsyth’s early advantage proved too much to overcome.
The Trojans wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Lee broke loose for a long touchdown reception with 11:08 remaining in the first quarter, and the extra point gave Maroa-Forsyth a 7–0 lead.
Taylor extended that advantage late in the quarter, turning a long run into another touchdown with 46 seconds remaining. The successful extra point pushed the lead to 14–0.
A mishandled Olympia punt snap that went out of the end zone resulted in a safety, adding two more points for the Trojans. Maroa-Forsyth continued building its lead in the second quarter when Williams kept the ball and broke away for a long touchdown run. The extra point made it 23–0 with 8:29 left before halftime.
Larner added a short touchdown run with 3:24 remaining in the second quarter. Another successful extra point sent the Trojans into halftime with a 30–0 advantage.
Maroa-Forsyth carried that momentum into the third quarter. Larner scored his second rushing touchdown of the night with 9:20 remaining. Olympia blocked the extra-point attempt, leaving the score at 36–0.
The Spartans then began finding success on the ground. Jimmy Lollar supplied Olympia’s first touchdown on a long run with 6:04 left in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 36–6.
Olson followed with a long touchdown run on a quarterback keeper at the 1:57 mark. A successful two-point conversion brought Olympia within 36–14 heading into the fourth quarter.
With the Spartans gaining momentum, Maroa-Forsyth answered through the air. Shannon caught a touchdown pass with 8:40 remaining, and the extra point extended the Trojans’ lead to 43–14.
Olympia continued competing, responding just over a minute later. Olson broke free on another long quarterback keeper for his second rushing touchdown with 7:38 left. The extra point made it 43–21, which held as the final score.
Maroa-Forsyth finished with six touchdowns, distributing the scoring among five players. Larner’s two rushing scores helped anchor the ground attack, while the touchdown receptions from Lee and Shannon gave the Trojans scoring contributions through the air.
For Olympia, Lollar’s touchdown and Olson’s two scoring runs highlighted a stronger second-half offensive performance. The Spartans scored 21 points after halftime, but the Trojans’ fourth-quarter touchdown prevented them from drawing closer.
Maroa-Forsyth’s ability to establish an early lead and answer Olympia’s rally ultimately secured the victory, rewarding a strong opening half with a 43–21 finish.
