Taylorville put together a dominant all-around performance, highlighted by a no-hitter on the mound, in an 8–0 win over Mahomet-Seymour.
Carter Cappellin was in complete control from start to finish, tossing seven hitless innings while striking out six and working around five walks. Despite a few free passes, Mahomet-Seymour never found a way to generate offense, as Cappellin and the Tornadoes’ defense kept them off the scoreboard all game.
Taylorville got on the board early in the first inning, taking advantage of a wild pitch to bring in the game’s first run. From there, they steadily built their lead, capitalizing on defensive miscues and control issues from Mahomet-Seymour pitching.
The Tornadoes broke things open in the fourth inning when Cappellin reached on an error that allowed two runs to score, extending the lead to 3–0. In the fifth, Taylorville put the game out of reach with a five-run frame—all without recording a hit in the inning. A string of walks forced in multiple runs, and another error allowed Colton Gatton to reach while a run scored, making it 8–0.
Taylorville finished with eight runs on just two hits, showing patience at the plate by drawing 10 walks. Isaac Repscher and Lucas Gerlick each scored twice, while Drew Morgan also crossed the plate twice as part of the offensive effort.
Mahomet-Seymour’s pitchers combined to allow 13 walks, which proved to be the difference in the game.
In the end, it was Cappellin’s no-hitter that stole the spotlight, capping off a commanding win for the Tornadoes.
