It was a tight, back-and-forth contest all night, but Mt. Pulaski did just enough late to come away with a 5–4 win over Williamsville.
Williamsville struck first in the opening inning when Collin Grosenheider tripled and later came home on a passed ball to give the Bullets an early 1–0 lead. Mt. Pulaski answered in the bottom half, capitalizing on an error to even things up at 1–1.
The Hilltoppers grabbed momentum in the second inning behind extra-base power, as Jaeden Jackson doubled and later scored, followed by Chase Roberts driving in another run with a double to make it 2–1. Williamsville responded in the third, tying the game at 2–2 on a sacrifice fly from Dax Buttry.
Mt. Pulaski regained the lead in the fourth when Keoni Charron tripled and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Tucker Fitzpatrick, putting the Hilltoppers up 3–2. But the Bullets kept fighting. In the fifth inning, Brenton Trickey delivered a clutch RBI single to tie the game, and later added another RBI knock in the sixth to briefly give Williamsville a 4–3 advantage.
The turning point came in the bottom of the sixth. Mt. Pulaski strung together key at-bats, including a double from Jaeden Jackson to tie the game at 4–4. Moments later, the Hilltoppers took advantage of a Williamsville error to bring home the go-ahead run and reclaim a 5–4 lead.
Williamsville had one last chance in the top of the seventh, getting a leadoff double from Gage Ratliff, but couldn’t bring him home. Aaron Volle closed it out from there, securing the win.
