The Meridian Hawks girls soccer team battled through a tightly contested matchup against the Pana Panthers, earning a 1–0 victory in a defensive showdown.
Both teams came out strong in the first half, with neither side able to find the back of the net. Meridian controlled possession early, applying steady pressure and keeping much of the action on Pana’s defensive end. Despite the pressure, the Panthers’ back line stood tall, turning away multiple scoring threats to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
Coming out of the break, Pana made key adjustments that shifted the momentum. The Panthers increased their defensive intensity while also finding more rhythm offensively. With improved ball control and quicker transitions, Pana generated several promising scoring opportunities and showed greater confidence in possession.
However, despite their second-half push, the Panthers were unable to capitalize on their chances. Meridian took advantage of a crucial moment, earning a free kick and converting it into the game’s lone goal.
Pana continued to apply pressure late, testing the Hawks’ defense and goalkeeper, but Meridian held firm to preserve the shutout. The Hawks secured the 1–0 road victory, while the Panthers showed resilience and growth in a hard-fought effort.
