The Taylorville Lady Tornadoes were backed by a strong showing from their community as they faced Decatur MacArthur High School in the girls regional championship game. The crowd traveled well and brought plenty of energy, setting the tone for a memorable postseason atmosphere.
The opening quarter was a slow start for both teams as they worked to find their rhythm. With 2:12 remaining in the first, Decatur held a 9–3 advantage before knocking down timely shots from beyond the arc to take a 12–4 lead at the end of the quarter. Those perimeter shots sparked momentum for the Generals, who carried it into the second quarter.
Decatur continued to build its lead with efficient offense and strong defensive pressure, limiting Taylorville’s scoring opportunities. By halftime, the Generals had opened up a 37–18 advantage, controlling both ends of the floor.
Taylorville refused to go quietly. Baileigh Jackson helped ignite the Lady Tornadoes in the third quarter, providing a much-needed boost and cutting the deficit to 42–29 midway through the period. Despite the push, Decatur’s size and excellent ball movement proved difficult to overcome, as the Generals responded and maintained control down the stretch.
Decatur closed out the game late to secure the regional championship, ending Taylorville’s season with a 71–51 final score.
The Lady Tornadoes left everything on the court in the loss. Jackson led Taylorville with 14 points, while Siempelkamp added 12. For Decatur, Meyer delivered a standout performance, finishing with a game-high 22 points.
Though the season came to an end, Taylorville’s effort, resilience, and the unwavering support from the community made the night a meaningful one and capped off a season to be proud of.
