Tornadoes Defeat Lanphier, Advance to Regional Championship

On February 17 at MacArthur High School, the Taylorville High School Tornadoes faced the Lanphier High School Lions in regional girls basketball action. Taylorville used a strong start and dominant rebounding effort to earn a 68-46 win and move on to the championship game.

First Half

Taylorville came out aggressive, building a quick 6-0 lead before Lanphier got on the board. The early momentum set the tone, as the Tornadoes controlled much of the first half with sharp passing, quick transition play, and efficient offense.

Lanphier answered with key shots to keep the game competitive, but Taylorville maintained the edge throughout. The Tornadoes carried a 32-26 lead into halftime after consistently outworking the Lions down the floor.

Second Half

Lanphier opened the second half with intensity, trimming the deficit to just one point. While the Lions never captured the lead, they made it a tight contest early in the third quarter.

Taylorville responded by pushing the pace and capitalizing on fast-break opportunities. Strong rebounding led to quick outlet passes and easy layups, helping the Tornadoes rebuild a double-digit advantage. By the end of the third quarter, Taylorville was back in control with a 10-point lead.

In the fourth, Lanphier attempted to battle back with a few three-pointers, but Taylorville’s defense and work on the boards shut the door. The Tornadoes closed out the game confidently, securing the 68-46 victory.

With the win, Taylorville advances to the Regional Championship and will face MacArthur High School on Friday night, Feb. 20.
