The Taylorville Tornadoes boys basketball team circled their road matchup at Effingham as a must-win and a statement game, and they played with that urgency from the opening tip. In a rivalry atmosphere with a loud home crowd and strong Taylorville support in the stands, the Tornadoes delivered a dramatic 57–52 overtime victory.
Taylorville came out locked in, controlling the tempo throughout the first half and holding the lead behind strong team defense and energy. Brock Brown set the tone early, making his presence felt on the defensive end with multiple blocks and steals, disrupting Effingham’s offense and igniting transition opportunities for the Tornadoes.
The Hearts refused to go away, however, and the game tightened in the second half. Effingham mounted a strong fourth-quarter push, feeding off the crowd’s energy and eventually taking a three-point lead with just three minutes remaining. The back-and-forth battle continued down the stretch, with both teams trading big possessions before the score was knotted at 49–49 at the end of regulation, forcing overtime.
In the extra period, it was Brock Brown who took over. Playing with emotion and intensity in the rivalry matchup, Brown elevated his game to another level, attacking the basket, knocking down key shots, and leading his team with confidence. He finished with a career-high 34 points, willing the Tornadoes to victory when it mattered most.
