Payback at Home: Mt. Pulaski Lady Toppers Defeat Athens to Remain Unbeaten

Mt. Pulaski hosted Athens on their home floor Friday night with more than just another win on the line. Sitting at a perfect 15–0, the Lady Toppers have quickly become the talk of the area, but they hadn’t forgotten last season’s tough loss to the Warriors in a big matchup. This one had a little extra meaning — a true revenge game.

From the opening tip, it was clear Athens wasn’t going to make it easy. Both teams traded baskets throughout a physical and competitive first half, with neither side able to create much separation. Mt. Pulaski stayed composed and heading into halftime, the Lady Toppers held a slim 24–18 advantage.

Athens came out of the break determined to keep pace, battling the entire third quarter and refusing to let Mt. Pulaski pull away. The Warriors stayed within striking distance, but when the moment called for it, the Lady Toppers answered.

Addison Brown and Alyson Murphy stepped up in a big way, knocking down several timely triples and finishing strong around the basket to swing momentum back in Mt. Pulaski’s favor. Murphy led the charge offensively, pouring in 20 points to pace the Lady Toppers and keep the home crowd energized.

With balanced scoring, steady defense, and clutch shooting, Mt. Pulaski closed the door down the stretch and secured their 16th win of the season. Still undefeated, the Lady Toppers continue to roll, proving once again why they are one of the most dangerous teams in the area — and why stopping them is becoming a tough task for anyone on their schedule.
