Rochester came in with momentum after a gritty road result against Normal West, but rival Chatham Glenwood had other plans, grinding out a 1-0 victory in a physical and defensive Central State 8 matchup.
The match opened with intensity on both sides, as Rochester’s Mary Jane Keller nearly broke through early. Keller attacked the Glenwood back line and came inches away from putting the Rockets on top, but the chance just missed finding the back of the net.
As the first half wore on, Glenwood found its moment. Known for her defensive presence, Kinsley Zellers showed her versatility by pushing forward on the attack. Zellers carried the ball through the middle of the field, created space from right to left, and fired a shot into the bottom left corner to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.
From there, the game settled into a defensive battle. Both teams struggled to create clear scoring opportunities, with Glenwood’s size and physicality making it difficult for Rochester to find rhythm in the attacking third.
In the second half, Glenwood nearly added to its lead, but Rochester’s Myra Gibson came up with a huge defensive play, clearing a ball off the line to keep the Rockets within striking distance.
Despite the effort, Rochester couldn’t break through. Glenwood controlled possession late and effectively ran down the clock, keeping Rochester off the scoreboard to secure the 1-0 win in a hard-fought CS8 contest.
