Williamsville Powers Past Clinton Behind Late Offensive Push

Williamsville broke open a tight game with a big fifth and sixth inning to secure a 12-8 win over Clinton, overcoming an early deficit and using timely hitting to take control late.

The Bullets came out aggressive in the top of the first, putting pressure on Clinton right away. Dax Buttry reached base to spark the offense, and Brenton Trickey followed to keep things moving. With runners in position, Peyton Casson lifted a sacrifice fly to center to plate the game’s first run and give Williamsville a 1-0 lead.

Williamsville kept it rolling in the second inning with a big offensive surge. Dalton Root knocked in a run with a single to extend the lead, and later in the inning, Brenton Trickey came through with a two-run double to left, scoring both Root and Collin Grosenheider to push the advantage to 4-0.

Clinton responded and built momentum through the middle innings. The Maroons chipped away in the second and third, highlighted by a Brock Wilson RBI double and aggressive baserunning that helped them battle back. By the end of the fourth inning, Clinton had taken a 6-4 lead.

The Maroons continued to apply pressure, with Jack Bass delivering a key RBI single in the fourth and Wilson adding a sacrifice fly to cap off the rally.

Williamsville answered in a big way in the fifth inning. Tate Austwick sparked the rally with an RBI single, and the Bullets capitalized on a Clinton error to tie the game at 6-6. They kept the pressure on with productive outs from Dalton Root and Sam Dukett to regain the lead at 8-6.

The sixth inning proved to be the difference. Dax Buttry reached on a bunt single that led to a run, and Casson followed with an RBI single. Austwick then delivered the biggest swing of the game, launching a two-run home run to left to stretch the lead to 12-6.

Clinton made one last push in the bottom of the sixth. Brock Wilson drove in a run with a single, and another run scored on a defensive miscue, but the rally fell short as the Bullets recorded the final out to seal the win.
