Small Town Roots, Big-Time Future: Patton & Woodworth Take Their Dynamic Duo to the Next Level

In the heart of Central Illinois, where cornfields stretch for miles and Friday nights mean everything, two small-town athletes have turned big dreams into reality. Lexi Patton and Lily Woodworth — the heartbeat battery of the TCSVMP softball co-op — are taking their talents to Jefferson Community College this fall, proving once again that elite talent doesn’t need a big-city spotlight to shine.

Representing the tight-knit communities of Mt. Pulaski and the Sangamon Valley area, Patton and Woodworth have become more than just standout players — they are a symbol of what hard work, resilience, and connection can build.

A Program Built on Unity

The TCSVMP co-op, which unites athletes from Mt. Pulaski, Sangamon Valley, and Tri-City, has grown into a powerhouse this season. Sitting undefeated at 12-0, the program reflects the strength of small communities coming together with a shared purpose — and at the center of it all is the dominant pitcher-catcher duo.

Lily Woodworth: A Comeback Fueled by Heart

Hailing from the small town of Mt. Pulaski — a place easy to miss on a map but impossible to overlook in spirit — Lily Woodworth’s journey is one of perseverance.

After suffering a serious accident that sidelined her and tested her physically and mentally, Woodworth refused to let adversity define her story. Instead, she attacked her recovery with determination and positivity.

TCSVMP head coach Travis Langfelter shared with ILSportsWire’s Jack Hart that even in her toughest moments following the crash, Woodworth never lost her smile or belief in herself.

That mindset has fueled one of the most impressive comebacks in the area.

Now nearing 700 career strikeouts, Woodworth has been dominant in the circle, anchoring TCSVMP’s undefeated run while continuing to rewrite her own story.

“Such a relief to keep playing and doing it with the people I love,” Woodworth said.

Her commitment to Jefferson Community College came down to belief — a coaching staff that saw her potential even during her setbacks and stood by her journey back to the field. That trust made her decision easy.

Lexi Patton: The Backbone Behind the Plate

Behind every great pitcher is a catcher who commands the game — and Lexi Patton has done just that.

A product of the Sangamon Valley area, Patton has been a force both defensively and offensively. Her presence behind the plate is unmatched, controlling the game with confidence while ensuring nothing gets past her. This season, she has yet to commit a single error — a testament to her discipline and focus.

At the plate, she’s just as dangerous.

Patton’s powerful swing and consistent production have made her a cornerstone of the TCSVMP lineup, delivering in big moments and setting the tone offensively.

Her decision to join Jefferson Community College was about more than softball. The program’s welcoming, “hometown” feel stood out — along with the opportunity to stay close to family and continue her journey alongside her best friend.

Having Woodworth by her side has made the transition even more exciting.

Together, they bring not just talent — but trust, chemistry, and a bond that goes far beyond the field.

More Than Teammates

What Patton and Woodworth share isn’t just a pitcher-catcher connection — it’s a sisterhood rooted in years of playing together, supporting one another, and representing their communities.

Through TCSVMP, both athletes credit their coaches for preparing them for the next level — instilling work ethic, mental toughness, and values that extend beyond softball.

Now, they’ll take those lessons with them as they step into the college game — together.
