The Rochester varsity softball team made a loud early-season statement, dominating Pleasant Plains behind a masterful performance in the circle from Jaelyn Watts.
Watts was untouchable all game, throwing a complete-game no-hitter over 7 innings while racking up an incredible 16 strikeouts. She controlled the game from start to finish, overpowering hitters and not allowing a single hit, completely shutting down Pleasant Plains’ offense.
Offensively, the Rockets backed their ace with timely hitting.
Molly Eichholz got things started in the bottom of the second inning, ripping a two-RBI double into center field to give Rochester an early cushion. The momentum continued in the third when Brooklyn Thompson delivered, driving in a run with a base hit to extend the lead.
Rochester continued to apply pressure throughout the game, consistently putting runners on base. In the fifth inning, Kendall Edmonson added the finishing touch, knocking in a two-out RBI single to cap off the scoring.
The Rockets finished with 13 hits on the day, led by Thompson’s three-hit performance. Molly Eichholz also drove in two runs, while several others contributed multi-hit efforts to power the offense. Rochester won 5-0 over the Cardinals
With dominant pitching and a balanced offensive attack, Rochester sent a clear message in this matchup, proving they will be a team to watch this season.
