Rockets Rise: Rochester Captures 2A Regional Title in Electric Showdown

In a gym that quite literally shook from start to finish, the Rochester Rockets delivered a championship performance Friday night.

With a packed house roaring on both ends of the floor, Rochester squared off against the Williamsville Bullets in the 2026 Class 2A Regional Championship. A regional plaque — and a trip to sectionals — hung in the balance.

By the final buzzer, it was Rochester standing tall, defeating Williamsville 50–41 to claim the title and continue its postseason run.

First Half: Defense Sparks the Surge

From the opening tip, the atmosphere was electric. Fans from both sides filled the gym with chants, cheers, and constant noise. When the whistle blew to begin the game, the intensity matched the moment.

Rochester controlled the tip and showed early composure, moving the ball effectively on offense. But Williamsville’s defensive pressure in the first quarter disrupted the Rockets’ rhythm. The Bullets capitalized on rebounds and turnovers, edging ahead 13–11 at the end of the first.

The second quarter, however, marked a turning point.

Rochester tightened up defensively, increasing ball pressure and forcing key turnovers. The Rockets converted those takeaways into transition opportunities, shifting momentum squarely in their favor. Aggression defined the quarter — on both ends. Physical play led to fouls, and both teams found themselves at the free-throw line frequently.

By halftime, Rochester had flipped the script and taken a 24–21 lead. The crowd, already loud, sensed something special brewing.

Second Half: Championship Composure

As the second half began, the noise returned to a deafening level. Rochester stuck with what worked — relentless defense and opportunistic scoring.

Though the Rockets continued to battle against Williamsville’s half-court defense, their ability to generate steals and convert fast-break points proved pivotal. Rochester extended its advantage throughout the third quarter, maintaining control of the tempo.

Just before the end of the third, Williamsville drilled a three-pointer to keep hope alive, cutting into the deficit. Still, Rochester entered the fourth quarter ahead 36–29.

The final eight minutes were a test of poise.

With every possession magnified, the Rockets stayed disciplined. Defensive stops piled up. Key baskets quieted Williamsville runs. As the final minute approached, the Rochester faithful erupted, sensing the celebration to come.

When the clock hit zero, the scoreboard told the story: Rochester 50, Williamsville 41.

Regional champions.

Celebration and What’s Next

As the Rockets received their Regional Championship plaque on Williamsville’s home floor, they were immediately swarmed by classmates, friends, and family. The student section poured onto the court, turning the moment into a sea of celebration.

But the journey isn’t over.

Rochester now advances to the Sectional Semifinals, where they will face the Staunton Bulldogs on Wednesday, March 4, at Pleasant Plains High School.

On a night filled with pressure and passion, the Rockets didn’t just win a game — they earned a championship. And if Friday proved anything, it’s that this team thrives when the lights are brightest
