The Rochester Rockets put together an impressive offensive performance Tuesday evening, finding contributions throughout the lineup on their way to a 5-2 victory over the Litchfield Panthers.
Rochester entered the matchup looking to rebound from a 3-1 loss to Orchard Farm on Saturday, and the Rockets responded by producing their highest-scoring performance of the young season.
The Rockets established control early, scoring four times in the first half while holding Litchfield to a single goal. Rochester carried a commanding 4-1 advantage into halftime, giving the Rockets plenty of breathing room heading into the final 40 minutes.
Junior Grant Kutscher (#8) led the way with an outstanding all-around performance, accounting for two goals and two assists. His six total points paced the Rochester attack and made him a factor both as a scorer and as a facilitator for his teammates.
The Rockets received plenty of help around him.
Senior Ahmed Hussein (#7) found the back of the net for one of Rochester’s five goals, while sophomore John Keller (#10) added another. Freshman Carter Gregory (#15) also got into the scoring column with a goal of his own, giving Rochester four different goal scorers in the victory.
Keller contributed beyond his goal with an assist, while senior J. Nichols (#6) also recorded an assist. Altogether, Rochester finished the match with five goals and four assists, highlighting the balance of an offense that was able to create opportunities from several different areas of the field.
Litchfield continued battling despite facing the three-goal halftime deficit. The Panthers found the net once more during the second half, while Rochester added its fifth and final goal to make the second-half scoring even at one apiece.
Defensively, the Rockets split time in goal between sophomore J. Mitchelle (#0) and junior J. Brock (#1), with each playing 40 minutes. Rochester’s defense limited Litchfield to two goals over the full 80 minutes.
The win was an important response for a Rochester team that had been tested through the opening weeks of its schedule. After entering Tuesday at 2-2-2, the victory moves the Rockets to 3-2-2 on the season.
For Rochester, however, the biggest takeaway was the number of players involved in the offensive production. Kutscher’s two-goal, two-assist showing headlined the night, but goals from Hussein, Keller and Gregory ensured the Panthers could not focus their attention on any one attacking option.
With four goals in the opening half and five different scoring plays by the final whistle, Rochester turned a balanced attack into a convincing home victory.
Final: Rochester 5, Litchfield 2
