The Rochester Rockets put together a commanding performance on the volleyball court, defeating the Lincoln Railers in straight sets behind an efficient offensive attack and strong work from the service line.
Rochester claimed the opening set 25-12 before carrying that momentum into a 25-15 victory in Set 2, completing the 2-0 sweep.
The Rockets were led offensively by senior Peyton Zeidler, who delivered a match-high 14 kills. Zeidler consistently gave Rochester a finishing option at the net and played a major role in the Rockets creating separation throughout the match.
Senior Cami Tinder helped keep the Rochester offense moving, recording 22 assists while distributing the ball to the Rockets’ attackers. Tinder also contributed two aces, while senior Hannah Florent added two aces of her own.
Rochester established control early in the opening set. With its offense finding rhythm and its serving putting pressure on Lincoln, the Rockets steadily built their advantage before closing out a convincing 25-12 win.
Lincoln looked to respond in the second set and was able to generate more offense against the Rockets. The Railers’ varsity group, led by head coach Natalie Koehler, continued battling behind a roster featuring seniors Emmalyn Splitter, Meghan DeVore, Paycen Schaefer and Jocelyn Perkins.
Rochester, however, never allowed the Railers to turn that response into a momentum-changing run.
Zeidler continued to provide production at the net, while Tinder’s setting helped Rochester remain balanced and organized offensively. The Rockets also received four kills from Liv Kratochvil, giving Rochester another option in its attack.
Defensively, Sam Kerley and Zeidler each recorded seven digs, helping Rochester extend rallies and turn Lincoln attacks into opportunities going the other direction. Katie Riedle also contributed to the Rockets’ defensive effort as Rochester kept the Railers from developing sustained offensive momentum.
The Rockets eventually pulled away to take the second set 25-15, finishing off a strong all-around performance and securing the straight-set victory.
For Rochester, the night was highlighted by the combination of Zeidler’s finishing ability and Tinder’s distribution. With 14 kills from Zeidler and 22 assists from Tinder, the Rockets showed the type of offensive connection that can make them difficult to defend as the season progresses.
Lincoln continued to compete despite the deficit, but Rochester’s ability to control play at the net, serve effectively and remain steady defensively ultimately proved too much to overcome.
