Jacksonville wasted no time taking control and never looked back, riding a dominant offensive performance to an 11-1 win over Taylorville.
The tone was set in the opening inning as Jacksonville jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead. Nolan Peters got things started with a sacrifice fly, followed by RBI production from Bentley Lagergren and a run-scoring double off the bat of Ethan Kruzan.
The rout continued in the second inning, where Jacksonville capitalized on defensive miscues. Jack Rohlk delivered an RBI single, and additional runs crossed the plate on errors before Lagergren capped the inning with another RBI knock to push the lead to 6-0.
Jacksonville kept piling on in the third. A costly Taylorville error allowed another run to score, and Rohlk added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 8-0.
The fourth inning saw even more damage, highlighted by RBI singles from Ryan Headen and Joe Reif. Reif’s hit drove in a run and advanced runners into scoring position, stretching the advantage to 10-0.
Taylorville finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth, scoring their lone run on a fielder’s choice play aided by an error.
Jacksonville answered right back in the sixth when Joe Reif stayed hot at the plate, lining an RBI single to bring home Talan Harney and cap the scoring at 11-1.
Jacksonville’s pitching backed the offense with a strong outing, allowing just two hits and one run while keeping Taylorville off balance all game.
